Christmas at the Hilton Colombo

Christmas is a time for celebrations. This year if you step into the Hilton Colombo, you could see a lot of colour and the team ever so eagerly getting ready for the festive season. With the opening of the hotel’s ‘Chocolate House’ featuring a real chocolate fountain, the goodies hut is packed with seasonal offerings such as Yule Logs, Breudhers, Minced pies, Marzipan Trees and more. The hotel also has lined up a string of events to celebrate this occasion.



On Christmas Eve, Christmas Day lunch and Christmas Day dinner, every outlet will have something special to offer for everyone. ‘Spices’ will offer the biggest buffet in town with a bountiful combination of your favourites. A very extravagant set menu will be compiled at ‘Spoons’ this Christmas which will leave those taste-buds asking for more, and ‘Curry Leaf’ will serve authentic Sri Lankan cuisine along with a fresh seafood buffet whilst ‘il Ponte’, ‘Emperor’s Wok’, and ‘Ginza Hohsen’ also will have special set menus on offer.

Everyone’s favourite; Carols will happen at the Thorana Lounge from 20 to 24 December from 8:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. ‘Choro Calibre’ choir will take centre stage and fill the lobby with their angelic voices to add more cheer to the celebrations. The lounge together with Dilmah will also feature the Mary Ann Singers, jazz singer Natasha Ratnayake, Kids Christmas choir with ‘Soul Sounds Academy’ choir, ‘Vocal Engima’ and the St. Benedict’s choir from 20 to 24 December. You can bring the little ones and introduce them Santa Claus who will visit the lobby during 20 to 25 December from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

After a lapse of four years, the hotel will also have their Silver Ball New Year’s Eve gala dinner dance with two great bands Geoffrey Fernando with Purple Rain and Black Velvet. The highlight of the evening will be the gastronomic feast dished up by Executive Chef Rohan Fernandopulle stated “We will have individual food stations ranging from charcuterie, cheese, seafood ice bar, Japanese, vegetarian, meat and poultry, pasta house, carvery and more.  Roasted pumpkin tortellini with white truffle, lobster and mushroom ravioli in lobster sauce, marinated octopus and cuttlefish, Maryland king crab, caviar vintage, over 20 varieties of cheeses, roasted stuffed quails with morel sauce, from the sushi bar assorted sushi, assorted tempura, okonomiyaki along with some exotic desserts are to be savoured.

The Silver Ball will be hosted at the Hilton’s Grand Ballroom on 31 December; guests can ring in the New Year with a truly unique sequence of events with the host of the evening, Adam Adamaly at this year’s spectacular New Year’s event. The Hilton Colombo’s Grand Ballroom serves as a unique reception space for Colombo’s most exclusive social events; the impeccable elegance of this private venue offers the best ambiance, music, lights, and sound to welcome 2013 right. There will be over 25 airline tickets to be won to exotic destinations including London, Paris, Rome, Frankfurt, Dubai and every table of 10 will receive special beverages.

Apart from the Silver Ball, ‘Spoons’ will serve yet another stylish set menu while you wait for the New Year to dawn. ‘Spices’ and ‘Curry Leaf’ will dish out two extravagant buffets and ‘Emperor’s Wok’, ‘il Ponte’, and ‘Ginza Hohsen’ will have special set menus.

After all the partying, finish off the festive spirit by savouring the New Year Brunch on 1 January 2013 at ‘Spices’. You could also take part in the Mochitsuki which is a rice pounding ceremony the Japanese way at the Hotel’s lobby at 9:30 a.m.
