Christmas was celebrated at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Stockholm on 11 December with an evening of prayers, carols and entertainment.

Ambassador Damayanthie Rajapakse delivered the welcome speech. Father Michael Bjerkhagen, Sri Lankan born Vicar of the Swedish Royal Court and Rev. Father Francisco Herrera-Mayagoitia of the Catholic Church of Täby conducted religious observances and delivered the Christmas message.

The Christmas program comprised of singing Christmas carols and performances by Sri Lankan children living in Stockholm. Christmas carols were sung by other Sri Lankans together with the Staff of the Embassy. In order to depict multiculturalism in Sri Lanka, carols were sung in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages.

To create the Christmas ambience, the nativity scene was performed by Sri Lankan children at the venue and the role of Santa Claus was played by a Sri Lankan to make the event more vibrant and colourful.

A large number of Sri Lankans and Swedish nationals participated at the event and enjoyed partaking of Sri Lankan food served for the guests.

The staff of the Embassy of Sri Lanka extended their unsolicited support to organise this event at the Embassy premises.
