Colombo’s largest five star property Cinnamon Grand takes its social responsibility towards customers to the next level by launching a pioneering campaign, to promote responsible drinking to customers and encourage them to be an informed and intelligent drinker who thinks when they drink. The initiative, launched this February 2014, is in partnership with Diageo, the world’s leading producer of spirits. The campaign primarily aims to raise awareness among customers to encourage them to drink responsibly by thinking about the decisions they are making, when choosing to drink. As part of its commitment, the hotel has already trained F&B hotel staff in the alcohol awareness program DRINKiQ. The training aims to raise their understanding of alcohol, its effects on the body, understating what is a ‘standard drink’, as well as sharing hints and tips to having a responsible time, providing staff with practical information they can use themselves, and when serving customers. Further training will be carried out to ensure that all F&B staff benefit from these invaluable insights and knowledge when serving guests. Drink Wise will promote information about alcohol and safe drinking hints and tips in hotel rooms and restaurants and highlight the importance of never drinking and driving, encouraging guests to make responsible decisions while enjoying themselves at Cinnamon Grand, and in Colombo. The campaign will demonstrate Cinnamon Grand’s commitment to excellent customer service and customer experience. As Cinnamon Grand’s General Manager Rohan Karr pointed out, “We encourage people to have fun and enjoy the pleasures of having a drink, remembering to eat regularly, drink lots of water to stay hydrated and never drink and drive. As part of this campaign, the ‘Be wise – don’t drink and drive’ aspect will take top priority, as we feel it is an important message which needs to be driven home!” He added, “As a key player in the hospitality industry and as a responsible corporate entity which has the best interests of our clientele at heart, we have a role to play in making sure that our staff are equipped to sell and serve our guests responsibly and that guests take care of themselves and get home safely.” Cinnamon Grand’s F &B Manager Travis Casater said, “We hope to communicate this message to both our external and internal customers, because our customers and our employees are valuable to us. It is vitally important that our staff too, are aware of how they should manage their own alcohol consumption in a responsible way, which will in turn not only impact their own wellbeing but also give them a comprehensive understanding of how they should serve our guests.” Diageo Country Manager Sri Lanka/Maldives Sujeewa Jayamanne said that they are looking forward to working with Cinnamon Grand in making a tangible difference in the attitude towards drinking: “As Colombo’s largest five star hotel with the highest number of restaurants and bars, we believe it is the preferred venue to carry out such a campaign, allowing us to reach a large number of customers who frequent the venues.” He added, “We’ve worked with Cinnamon Grand for years and are certain of their commitment to social responsibility, thereby making them an ideal partner for this initiative.” The ‘Drink Wise’ campaign will be an ongoing initiative, over key festive dates throughout the year. The Cinnamon Grand and DIAGEO encourage others to join in their commitment to responsible drinking.
