Cinnamon Lakeside introduces prawn okonomiyaki at Sushi Bar

Say Japanese food and what comes to mind immediately are platters of sushi and sashimi, or, perhaps, yakitori. It’s not very often that we hear of the Japanese speciality ‘okonomiyaki.’ Committed to introduce flavours that are little known to the Colombo food circle, Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo has now introduced this special Japanese dish at their Sushi Bar at The Lounge. One can now spend their idle hours or meal times, savouring this delicious fare with a cup of sake. A veritable part of Japanese cuisine – this to the Japanese, what pizza is to Italians. A popular grilled dish that comes with a rich layer of toppings, okonomiyaki is somewhat of a savoury pancake (minus the fluffiness of the latter) with generous doses of sauces and other ingredients. The name is said to derive from the words ‘okonomi’ meaning ‘what you like’ and ‘yaki’ meaning grilled or cooked. Mostly prepared with a tempura flour batter and shredded cabbage, the dish is a quick snack with many variations. At the Sushi Bar, heaps of prawns are stacked on top, with other ingredients to create the perfect piquant dish, that is sure to have anyone craving for seconds. Cooked on a griddle with various kinds of toppings placed over a base; the variety of toppings available, adds a new dimension to the dish.
