With Alliance Française de Kotte and Seneka Abeyratne
The Contemporary Dance Workshop for Ballet Dancers is a leading ‘Printemps Français 2014’ event and is sponsored by the Alliance Française de Kotte. It will be conducted by freelance dance choreographer Seneka Abeyratne, who has a strong background in classical ballet as well as extensive knowledge of western contemporary dance techniques and choreography.
This workshop is ‘admission free’ and will be conducted at the Deanna School of Dancing (Studio 1), 30/63H, Longden Place, Colombo 07 on Sunday 29 June 2014 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All inquiries may be emailed to Seneka Abeyratne at: [email protected].
Abeyratne has, in recent years, conducted numerous workshops on contemporary dance at such venues as the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, the Fulbright Commission, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and the Nelung Arts Center. His solo dance-theater performance at Park Street Mews in 2013 (Colomboscope) was based on Martha Graham technique.
The workshop is recommended for dancers of a minimum of 13 years of age and with at least one year of ballet training, given its emphasis on technique and performance quality.
The main objective of the workshop is to demonstrate how to incorporate simple ballet techniques into contemporary and freestyle modern dance.
The structure will include barre work, centre work, floor work, and a variety of across-the-floor combinations.
