The gala Crown Miss Intercontinental Sri Lanka 2017 is gaining ground. Entries have topped 80 and are still rolling in. The closing date for entries is 31 July for both the applicants for the pageant and the Battle of the Designer, which winning design will be worn at the international pageant by Sri Lanka’s title holder.
The National Director for the Crown Miss Intercontinental Sri Lanka 2017 Joyce James-Gunawardene believes that the excitement is becoming very palpable.
“The schedule for the seven weeks after entries close, will be intense with training and development programmes, mentoring workshops, motivational speeches, fitness training, photographic tips and tricks, portfolio shoots and the pageant’s cause, the Heavena Residential Shelter for Abused, Trafficked and Homeless Women all becoming part of the daily routine for the Top 20 contestants. The schedule is designed to empower the contestants to optimise not only on their beauty but also on their intellect and acumen and that’s the idea of our axiom, Going Beyond Beauty.”
For the first time in the history of pageants in Sri Lanka, a collective of experts from motivational speakers, to fitness gurus, media consultants to styling, grooming and etiquette specialists and business and entrepreneurial mentors within the panel of resource persons will be proactively involved with the contestants. Each of the applicants who have sent in their coupons will engage with a distinguished panel of judges at a one-to-one interview prior to finalising the Top 20 contestants.
Three weeks into the intense training programmes where each of the contestants will be continually assessed, a final interview with the judges will herald the fifteen semi-finalists. Once chosen, the fifteen semi-finalists will undergo even more concentrated penetrative training and development programmes aligned with the international standards required of MIO, the Miss Intercontinental Organisation.
In the meanwhile, the Battle of the Designers, another first for a pageant in the country, aims at highlighting Sri Lankan designers to showcase their design abilities. Says Joyce: “By sending in sketches of their ideal of a national costume that can be worn on the global stage, highlighting Sri Lanka for all her amazing dynamics, the shortlisted designers will have their designs worn by the 15 semi-finalists at the Sri Lankan pageant and the winning design walk the catwalk among 80 international contestants at the global pageant in November.”
The designer will also travel to Mumbai and be present at the Coronation Pageant to see his or her design being worn by Crown Miss Intercontinental Sri Lanka 2017.
