The International Institute of Mystical Rose, established in 1998, is a Montessori, activity school, performing arts centre, corporate training school, teacher training academy, and publications and test centre which provides and supports the holistic development of a student from his/her first steps until their entry in to a chosen vocation.

An integral and vital part of the school’s philosophy is the promotion of English and the performing arts amongst all students. In keeping with this, the Mystical Rose International Institute has planned to treat Colombo’s audiences to Disney’s Broadway musical, ‘Disney’s Beauty and the Beast,’ presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorised performance materials are also supplied by MTI.

The musical is directed by Indu Dharmasena with music and choral direction by Soundarie David. Supporting roles and the chorus comprise of students of the International Institute of Mystical Rose and the Soul Sounds Academy.

This Disney classic tells the tale of an enchanted prince in the shape of a hideous beast and the intelligent beauty who enters his life and must learn to love him if the curse is ever to be broken, with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice and the book by Linda Woolverton.

The musical was originally directed by Robert Jess Roth and produced by Disney Theatrical Productions.

The show will go on the boards at the Lionel Wendt Theatre on the 10th 11th and 12th August at 7.15 p.m. Tickets are available at the Lionel Wendt Theatre box office (beginning 6th August). Tickets are priced at Rs. 2,000, 1,500, 1,000, 800 and 500 (balcony – unreserved).
