The sixth edition of the French Spring Festival, which will take place between 14 June and 14 July, has officially started.
For this year’s festival, the French Embassy and the Alliance Française intend to bring the best of French modern culture to an extended audience in Colombo and Kandy.
On Wednesday, 14 June, the Ambassador of France to Sri Lanka and the Maldives led the opening ceremony at the French Residence with nearly 200 guests. The highlight of the evening was the exhibition of French photographer Marie-Caroline Senlis accompanied by the sound of a Sri Lankan jazz band. Her exhibition ‘Mystic’ is free and open to all at the French Residence between 15 and 18 June.
This opening ceremony marks the beginning of the festival. It will start with the DJ set of Sven Løve on 17 June at 41 Sugar and the street art performance of Alber on 17 June in Kandy and 19 and 20 June in Colombo at the Alliance Française and Sugar Bistro and Wine (Odel). These events are free and open to all. For more information visit the French Spring Festival Facebook page.
Moreover, this ceremony provided the opportunity to congratulate the winner of the Labcitoyen. This writing competition on the theme ‘the Human rights in the city’ offers a trip to France during which the winner will assist in debates, workshops and cultural events. This year’s lucky Sri Lankan student received her price and was congratulated by the French Ambassador Jean-Marin Schuh during the evening.
The Embassy of France gave special thanks to private partners who made this event possible.
