Ramzi Rahaman, the renowned maestro of hair and fashion yet again set ablaze the Sri Lankan fashion industry with ‘Hair Couture’, a show that revealed his timeless talent through three segments – The Past, The Present and The Future. Held at the Grand Ballroom of the Galadari Hotel on 29 September, the event was graced by many distinguished guests from the fashion industry and all walks of life.
Choreographed by celebrated choreographer, Lou Ching Wong, the show featured almost 100 models and was impeccably put together, each piece falling in place to present an extravagant display that weaved through seamlessly, leaving onlookers entertained. The first segment, which showcased the past styles created by Ramzi was a tribute to the different eras bringing to life various creations that set apart Ramzi from the very beginning of his career.
The second segment which featured current trends prevalent in the society as fashioned by Ramzi focused on imparting a sense of ‘personalised style’ that could be best defined as ‘trendsetting’ and ‘street-smart’ to today’s fashion conscious girls, boys, men and women. Kids were not forgotten as several youngsters strutted along the ramp showing that it is never too early to be fashion conscious.
In the third segment, ‘The Future’, Ramzi revealed his more whimsical side where models were dolled up in futuristic and imaginary styles. Last but not least, the special segment ‘Fantasy’ was showcased adding a whirlwind of colour to the otherwise white and silver palate with colourful body paintings and hair structures.
A pioneer, creative genius, performer and star maker, Ramzi is one of the most celebrated stylists in Sri Lanka. His innate ability as an artist is not just bound to hairstyles but spreads across several other artistic arenas. Renowned as an adept ballroom dancer, the maestro made a special appearance at the Hair Couture showing his dancing prowess to perfection.
The show was a reflection of Ramzi’s versatility and distinctive nature displaying his progress in the fashion industry and his mastery refined through the long 40 plus years in his career. Further Hair Couture presented an ideal setting for young stylists to experience first hand the finesse of Ramzi and learn something new.
Hair Couture in the true sense was a revelation of Ramzi’s legend through time, which will continue to sparkle and shine brighter than ever for long years to come. All proceeds from the show were given to the Menhandy School for the Exceptional Child.
