The final round of the LG Microwave Challenge was conducted at the Abans Elite showroom in Ratmalana on 30 March 2013. The competition drew unprecedented interest from housewives from all over the Island, and the distinguished panel of judges had a tough time selecting the five finalists from the large number of entries received.
The whole concept of the competition was to demonstrate that microwave cooking was healthy, tasty, clean and time saving, and above all, a variety of dishes including full meals, could be prepared efficiently in a microwave oven. All participants were required to demonstrate the preparation of their dish and had 45 minutes to complete it.
The Grand Prize winner was Nita Wickremasinghe from Nugegoda who received the latest LG Convection Microwave Oven. Her dish of Spicy Chicken which stole the prize, was both appealing to the eye as well as the taste buds.
The first runner-up was Rohini Peiris from Moratuwa who received an LG Microwave Oven with grill. She conjured up a magnificent dish of Soya and Mushroom Fried Rice to secure the 2nd place.
The 2nd runner-up was Nilamani Peiris from Nugegoda who received an LG Solo Microwave Oven for her prize-winning dish of Pasta with White Sauce.
The two other finalists were Pamela De Silva from Colombo 4 who presented a dish of Baked Mackerel Fish Pie, and Nadeera Eheliyagoda from Eheliyagoda whose mouth-watering Brownies also entitled her to a consolation prize. A wide variety of dishes were prepared. All finalists used LG Microwave Ovens, and unanimously agreed on the convenience and ease of operation and the advanced features which made cooking easy and time-saving. All the participants thoroughly enjoyed the experience of participating in a competition of this nature and expressed their eagerness to try out each others’ recipes once they got home.
The management of Abans and the organising committee of LG Abans Microwave Challenge wish to thank all those who enthusiastically sent in their wonderful recipes, the finalists for the extremely high standard displayed, and the large audience that turned up for the finals, which made this competition highly successful.
