St. Andrew’s Scots Kirk presents Hymnfest ’13, a popular and much-awaited festival of hymns with fantastic arrangements for congregation, choirs, brass and organ.
The concert will take place on Sunday 14 July at 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Scots Kirk No. 73, Galle Road Colombo 3. Entrance is free with a retiring offering taken at the end. You are all welcome to attend and to bring along your friends and family.
The evening will feature some of the best loved hymns that have been based on the psalms or have biblical references. The hymns will include ‘Praise to the Lord the almighty,’ ‘The Lord’s my shepherd,’ ‘O God our help in ages,’ ‘Through all the changing scenes of life,’ ‘O worship the King’ and many more firm favourites that have stood the test of time. The evening will also include Anthems for the Choir alone including Hubert Parry’s perennial setting of Psalm 122 ‘I was glad’.
The musicians participating will be Voice of Praise Chamber Choir, the Colombo Philharmonic Choir, the Colombo Brass ensemble, Timpanist Tuan Gressy and Denham Pereira at the Organ. The conductor will be Manilal Weerakoon and Jill Macdonald will be the presenter for the evening.
If you love singing hymns, then don’t miss out! The concert will last approximately one hour and 30 minutes. Access into the Church will be from 7 p.m. onwards.
