Miss India, Kanika Kapoor, was crowned Miss Asia 2015 in a competition held in Kochi, a city in India’s southern state of Kerala, last week.
Among the participants from more than a dozen countries, Miss Philippines, Alphe Marie Nathani, was named first runner-up and Miss Azerbaijan, Jailla Gulieva, the second runner-up.
Kapoor, who said she was ecstatic after her win, thanked the organisers for the opportunity to be a role model.
“I want to inspire little girls to achieve their dreams. Now that I have achieved my dream, I think I am the best role model for them and inspire them. I have always been fond of acting and I have already done one movie in Telugu. Let’s see what happens in the future,” said Kapoor, adding that her parents would be proud of her achievement.
She received half a million rupees as prize money for the title.
The participating countries included Bhutan, China, Iran, Malaysia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Tibet, Turkmenistan, the UAE and Uzbekistan.
