To celebrate the third International Day of Yoga, a mega event will be held on Saturday, 17 June at the Independence Square Park in Colombo.
On 11 December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution piloted by India declaring 21 June each year as the ‘International Day of Yoga’. The resolution was supported by more than 170 countries, with Sri Lanka being one of the first co-sponsors of the Resolution. Yoga is an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition that embodies unity of mind, body and soul. Yoga, like Ayurveda, forms a part of shared heritage of India and Sri Lanka. The first and second International Day of Yoga was celebrated with great fanfare throughout the island in 2015 and 2016 with participation of thousands of yoga enthusiasts.
Gearing up to the third International Day of Yoga, High Commission of India organised the first ever ‘Yoga Road Show’, a soulful journey to the world of yoga, travelling throughout the island from East to West, from North to South covering major cities of Sri Lanka.
