Kaleidoscope Two an exhibition and sale of quilts, presented by the Hill Country Women’s Association in order to raise funds to support its service projects in the hill country, will be held on Saturday 5 September, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Colombo Art Gallery.
Dr. Maithri Wickramasinghe will be the Chief Guest on this occasion, while tickets which are priced at Rs. 500 will be available at the door.
The Hill Country Women’s Association was founded by Mallika Thiagarajah, who is currently its patron. Mallika whose hobby and passion is quilt-making will display over a 100 quilts at the exhibition, all of which have been made single-handedly by her.
In addition to these quilts which are works of art and are a labour of love, Quilt Magazines will also be sold, while several stalls selling sewing related items, lacework, table linen, women and children’s clothing items, fashion jewellery, chocolates, etc., will be on sale.
The Hill Country Women’s association was founded 12 years ago, to serve the women and children from the hill country in order to supplement their basic education with extra classes in English, Sinhala, Computer literacy, sewing, etc. General and maternity health clinics are periodically organised, while the artistic talents of school children are also encouraged. According to Thiagarajah disaster relief too is provided as and when the need arises.
An ambulance, an ultrasonic machine and intra ocular lenses have so far been donated to the deserving and needy.
