While your kids may reign rulers of their cyber empires, wage winning wars in a game of thrones and be undisputed leaders in the ‘i-sphere’, how much of Sri Lanka’s rural village life and the enchanting simplicity it possesses, are they familiar with? Sri Lanka’s only ‘Village in the city’, tucked in a rural nook of Colombo’s largest five star property, Cinnamon Grand, presents an opportunity for children to understand and appreciate traditional village life in a day of enjoyment, entertainment and education, with real life challenges that surpass those posed in cyber space or on a video game screen and instead tackle the ‘village version’ of those quests, which require them to get their hands dirty and face the tests and trials of the real world, in a fun filled way. This holiday workshop will work it with a difference, so that children who have lived in the city for most their lives will learn the cultures, traditions and heritage of Sri Lankan village life in a fun and interesting way, which will leave them enticed, enthused and engaged. In an action packed, insightful and informative session, kids will learn of village food, dress, games, entertainment and lifestyle in activities which will direct them to their roots while instilling in them the notion of being authentic and valuing Sri Lankan heritage. The idea of the workshop is to navigate them away from their televisions, video games and i-pads and instead provide a day in the natural outdoors, engaging in activities that require mental, physical and creative effort. The workshop itinerary will include a performing arts session by Vinodh Senadheera, who currently heads Performing Arts at CIS (Colombo International School) and is one of the best known young directors in Colombo’s drama circles. It will also host a ‘Music, Song, Rhythm and Movement; session by Soundarie David Rodrigo’ and the internationally acclaimed Soul Sounds Academy. In addition, sessions will be conducted by Cinnamon Nature Trails on Sri Lanka’s exotic wildlife as well as a tour of the Real Radio Studios at Crescat and cookery and arts and crafts demonstrations by Cinnamon Grand’s expert teams. Further, an array of exciting and educative games and activities will keep your kids busy and interested. The village based workshop, will be held on 16 August 2013 at Nuga Gama, exclusively for children aged between six and nine years and on 22 August for those aged between 10 and 12 years Held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., you can drop your kids off on your way to work and pick them up after lunch.
