KWA Architects clinches awards at Asia Pacific Property Awards 2015

KWA Architects won two awards at this year’s Asia Pacific Property Awards held in Kuala Lumpur. The five star award for ‘Best Hotel Architecture Sri Lanka’ was awarded to their Reefs Edge Hotel project in Uswetakeiyawa and a ‘Highly Commendation’ under ‘Public Service Interior Sri Lanka’ was awarded for interior designs of the Expo Rail Railway carriages.

The Asia Pacific Property Awards are part of the long-established International Property Awards and the winners are recognised as a symbol of excellence throughout the global construction industry. The judging panel of the awards consists of many world renowned professionals. KWA Architects were the only Sri Lankan architectural practice to win at this year’s awards ceremony. Lord Courtown from the House of Lords in the British Parliament and Stuart Shield, President of the International Property Awards made the presentations along with members of the sponsorship organisations.

The Reefs Edge Hotel is a 23 key luxury beach hotel that opened last year and since has become the premier luxury hotel in the area. Expo Rail became an overnight sensation when it was launched in 2012, winning the hearts and minds of the travellers both local and international by bringing in a unique rail experience to Sri Lanka.

KWA Architects Partner Thilan Koththigoda said: “We are delighted to be among multiple award winners in the first time we have entered the awards. International recognition of this nature certainly encourages us to continue working on great architecture.”

KWA Architects was established in 2008 as a chartered architectural practice and has been involved in projects in hospitality, retail, residential sectors as well as high specification interior design projects. Among their ongoing work is the highly sought-after Colombo City Centre on the banks of Beira Lake which is an ultra-high-rise mixed development consisting of a shopping mall, city hotel and luxury apartments. KWA Architects is collaborating with internationally-renowned Aedas architects on this project.
