Laksala has been presented with an Award of Excellence as the best marketer of handicrafts in South Asia on a recommendation made by the Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ) for giving priority to customer needs and requirements of both local and foreign tourists.
The IFWJ which was formed in 1950 today has a membership of 30,000 representing 35 States in India. The IFWJ representatives who attended the CHOGM (Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting) in Sri Lanka, last year, were highly appreciative of the customer services Laksala provided.
Although at one time Laksala was running at a loss, after Anil Koswatte took over as Chairman it became the pioneer in the field of local handicrafts, after modernisation.
