The Restaurant Operating System (ROS) is the future of the restaurant industry, said Leapset CEO Mani Kulasooriya in a media briefing held on Tuesday.
The Silicon Valley-based technology company envisions a future where all restaurant operations and functions are augmented and improved through technology, and is providing a technology platform that does just that.
The Leapset ROS is currently distributed exclusively in the United States, out of its Silicon Valley-based head office in Redwood City, California, through the sales network of Leapset’s parent Compnay Sysco – the world’s largest food services corporation with $44 billion in revenue.
The US restaurant industry employs 13.5 million people and is the second largest in terms of employment numbers. The industry has annual revenue of $ 660 billion, and serves 130 million Americans daily through one million restaurants. However, the industry has been traditionally slow to adopt new technology. This has created the opportunity for a disruptive innovator like Leapset to change the technology landscape around restaurants.
Currently the market is highly fragmented with most companies focusing on a single area of the merchant-consumer interaction like online ordering, Point of Sale (POS) or reservations. However Leapset’s approach is revolutionising the industry by enhancing all of these restaurant-consumer interactions with a single consolidated platform.
“We are looking at the customer’s restaurant experience holistically, and seeing how we can make it better end-to-end,” Kulasooriya stated. “We are looking at how customers discover restaurants, make reservations, place orders and make payments. We are also looking at how restaurants attract customers, manage their guests, collect feedback and most importantly facilitate customer retention. Our technology platform has solutions for all these touch-points. The Restaurant Operation System is a complete technology platform that addresses all the needs of customers and restaurateurs. We are the only company in the industry currently building a suite of products across each of these touch points.”
Leapset also believes that as a subsidiary of Sysco, it is uniquely poised to capture the US restaurant market. Sysco has a monopoly of the food services business with 193 operating companies serving 425,000 customers daily through its sales force of over 6,500 associates.
“What Sysco grants us is a massive captive audience of restaurants that we can take our platform to, and an incredible sales force who can take it to them,” added Kulasooriya. “The sales associates already have established relationships with their customers and have been looking for ways to differentiate their offerings from those of other food distributors. Leapset allows Sysco to be a cutting edge technology provider to their massive customer base.”
Leapset’s comprehensive technology platform is developed exclusively in Sri Lanka by a high calibre engineering team. Leapset has emerged as one of the top employers in the Sri Lankan IT industry and is expanding rapidly to meet their growing demands. Having ready access to an amazing talent pool of engineers in Colombo has allowed Leapset to develop a cutting edge platform taking it to market fast, and continuously expand its solution base.
