The Diabetes Association of Sri Lanka (DASL) signed an agreement with Watawala Tea Ceylon Limited (WTCL) to communicate a message on diabetes awareness to the general public of Sri Lanka.
With diabetes on the rise in Sri Lanka, the DASL has created a logo and slogan ‘Life is sweeter with less sugar’ and plans to take this message to the masses, with the support of WTCL.
As per the agreement, all Zesta, Watawala tea and Ran kahata tea packets will henceforth carry the above logo and message on the rear of the pack as a Corporate Social Responsibility project initiative, to educate the public to use the minimum amount of sugar in their cup of tea.
With approximately 9% of school children aged 5-20 years and 22% adults aged 20-40 years having abnormal blood sugar levels in the country, the DASL is concentrating on primary prevention through increased education and awareness to highlight the ill effects of consuming large amounts of refined products worst of which is sugar.
All activities and patient care services of the DASL are conducted at the National Diabetes Centre at No.50, Sarana Mawatha, Rajagiriya, Tel 2872951/2 email: [email protected].
The DASL is very grateful to WTCL for taking on this educational and awareness campaign as a CSR project.
