Danish soft rock band and Denmark’s biggest pop export Michael Learns to Rock will perform live in Sri Lanka tonight (18 May) at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre (SLECC) from 6.30 p.m.
This is the band’s second live concert in Sri Lanka having first performed here in 2004.
Having formed back in 1988, MLTR, as they have come to be known by fans, have sold over 11 million records over the decades with fans in Asia being the biggest contributors to record sales. They have over 50 million views on YouTube with more than a million plays on Last.FM. In Sri Lanka, MLTR is somewhat of an institution having dominated airwaves in the ’90s while still being celebrated by younger generations today.
Lead singer and songwriter Jascha Richter, guitarist Mikkel Lentz and drummer Kare Wanscher will be in town to perform their much-loved hits such as Actor, Sleeping Child, Paint My Love, Breaking My Heart, Blue Night and many more. The band also revealed that they would treat the audience to some of their newest work.
Speaking at a pre-show press conference held at The Mövenpick Hotel Colombo on Tuesday, Lentz expressed their delight at being able to return to Sri Lanka for another show and conveyed the appreciation the band had for the amount of love they had received from the fans here.
Having landed just a few days ago, the band’s schedule has not allowed them to see much of the country at which Lentz shared his disappointment.
“The view hasn’t changed much from my hotel room, but that’s probably because I can only see the sea,” he joked. “We haven’t had much time to see the country but hopefully after the show, we can be tourists.”
Richter, also speaking at the press conference, stated that the band had been working on several new songs while it would be unveiling some of their new material to the audience. Lentz added that he felt the band would soon be in the studio recording another album.
MLTR on Stage for One Night is set to be a night of unforgettable fun as they take you on a nostalgic musical journey of classics from the ’90s as well contemporary hits. The show is presented by Lite 87 with official partners including DCI Recruitment Ltd., Commercial Bank, Classic Travel Ltd., Arpico Supercentre, Elephant House, Jetwing Travels, Mövenpick Hotel Colombo, TNL Radio and Imorich. Daily FT, Daily Mirror and The Sunday Times are the official print media partners for the show.
