Pyotr Tchaikovsky music competition

The Russian Centre in Colombo will be holding a music competition to mark Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s birth Anniversary which falls on 7 May. The students of the Russian School of Music will be given a chance to compete in different age group categories, to mark this special event. The winners will be awarded certificates and Pyotr Tchaikovsky Special Award.



Pyotr Tchaikovsky was born  in 1840 and became a Russian Composer whose works included symphonies, Concerts, Operas, Ballets and Chamber music. Some of these are amongst the most popular concert and theatrical music in the classical repertoire. He was the first Russian Composer whose music made a lasting impression internationally. Tchaikovsky was honored in 1884 by Tsar Alexander 111 and awarded a lifetime pension in the late 1880s.
