Together with Sunsilk, its long-term project partner, the Ramani Fernando Hair and Beauty Academy announced its annual graduation ceremony recently at the Galadari Hotel. The Sunsilk graduation will be held for the eighth consecutive year and is scheduled to take place at the Galadari Hotel on 20 March 2013.
Official choreographer of the event Senaka De Silva said: “Some of the segments showcased in the fashion show include the ‘Bling’ category, which is one of the very special categories this year. It will showcase a combination of rhinestones with eye makeup and the outfits. The Fantasy category this year known as ‘Wearable Art’ will showcase the work of the beauticians combining art with hair. The bridal category ‘Bridal Showstopper’ will include a total of 10 fashion models and will showcase offbeat bridal fashion designs.
“The final category ‘Man Power’ will include a variety of designs based on corporate men, which will also include a range of evening wear by Aslam from Gebees. It hasalways been a great pleasure to work with Sunsilk and help the students present their hard work on stage.”
This year the academy will be felicitating one of the main tutors of the academy, Lucky Lenagala, with an excellence award, which will take place for the first time in Sri Lanka. The graduation will bring together a total of 75 models on the ramp. Briefing the gathering on the graduation, Ramani Fernando said: “Under the theme ‘Hair Art 2013,’ 101 beauticians will be graduating this year. The graduation is a combination the hard work of the students and the management. Being our official choreographer for the past five years Senaka have done a tremendous job. Sunsilk, the premier hair care brand of Unilever who joined hands since the inception of the academy, have passed many mile stones with us.” The main official designers of the graduation will be Aslam Husain, Sonali, Dream Brides and Darshi Keerthisena. Sunsilk will be giving away graduations for 25 students this year as well, in helping the students in their future endeavours. Unilever Sri Lanka Home and personal care Marketing Director Asanga Ranasinghe said: “The beauty industry in Indonesia and Thailand is skyrocketing, and they have taken over the industry by its brands. We look forward in upgrading the industry with talented young beauticians produced by the academy.
Unilever Sri Lanka Hair and Care Category Head Wathsala Aluthgedara said: “We are quite amazed by the talent of the students being showcased every year. At each graduation the students have been showing various segments surprising the panel of judges and each of them are unique. The academy has created a social as well as an economical impact locally.”
