For the first-time ever, Sri Lanka will host the Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA) between 9 and 12 December. Global music makers will join forces with Sri Lanka’s thriving local talent for cutting-edge industry collaborations over three days, adding to the list of highly anticipated events lined up for this December.
The RBMA has been committed to fostering creativity in music since 1998. As a world-travelling series of music workshops and festivals, the RBMA provides a transformative platform for those who want to make a difference in today’s musical landscape. It enables the most daring new music makers to find their own ways of expressing themselves through exclusive collaborations with accomplished artists from various styles, methodologies and cultures, where exchanges personal experience and professional expertise give wings to inspiration that can set them off on their own path in music.
This December, Colombo will play host to a series of club nights across the city’s favourite night clubs as well as an exclusive RBMA Session, where young local artists and producers get the chance to hear music wisdom straight from renowned international music makers. The Sri Lankan edition will feature The Black Madonna, an increasingly respected DJ known for uplifting sets that balance established anthems with idiosyncratic selections. She is an accomplished producer with a string of known tracks such as ‘Exodus’ and ‘A Jealous Heart Never Rests’ as well as the Music Director of Chicago’s Smart Bar – one of the best clubs in North America.
“Sri Lanka’s vibrant mix of cultures and heritage has given birth to some phenomenal musical talent,” said The Black Madonna. “I look forward to working with the different styles and methodologies Sri Lanka has to offer, and can’t wait to take our musical creativity to the next level.”
Sri Lanka’s partygoers can experience The Black Madonna’s music at a series of Night Clubs across Colombo, and attend a RBMA Lecture at Rio Hotel and Cinema where she will be joined by Dr. J and Thanujika from The DJ Academy – Sri Lanka. Here Black Madonna will discuss her contribution to music history and what drives her passion for music.
“The rise of electronic music in recent times has contributed to an outburst of home grown talent, where some of Sri Lanka’s best DJs have shared decks with world-renowned artists at a number of local festivals,” added Thanujiak, at The DJ Academy – Sri Lanka. “The Red Bull Music Academy is a fantastic opportunity to nurture this talent even further, and we are excited to work with The Black Madonna and RBMA to take Sri Lanka to the decks of the world!”
