Renowned photographer Sandun Gamage is a veteran in the field of photography in Sri Lanka. Over the years, he has pioneered change and transformed the realm of photography in diverse spheres such as weddings, fashion, tourism, interior design and even celebrity profiles.
However, Sandun’s popularity among his Sri Lankan fan following is all thanks to his wedding photography, which have captured the essence and beauty of matrimony, time after time.
Known for his ‘out of the box’ thinking when he gets behind the camera, Sandun has created a benchmark for photography. His photographs have delighted many, including popular celebrities and socialites who have a discerning taste for creative photographs.
For over two decades, Sandun has also created ripples with his photography, where his photographs have graced the cover of the Sandella tabloid of the Sunday Lankadeepa, continuously, every week. He also dabbles with a bit of writing, freelancing as feature writer for the paper.
In the year 2004, Sandun held his first ever solo photography exhibition under the theme ‘Stars and Brides’ at the Lionel Wendt. He later followed this up with yet another solo exhibition titled ‘Sendal –My Brides’ in June, 2014.
After having enjoyed two successful solo exhibitions in Sri Lanka, he decided to showcase his talent in Melbourne at the Coburg City Hall with a photography exhibition the title ‘Enchanting Sri Lanka’, capturing the hearts of many.
Sandun’s next adventure takes him to Italy in October, where he is all set and ready to share his love for photography and then he plans to travel to Tokyo, Japan for yet another solo photography exhibition. The year 2016, will see Sandun travel to America and Canada, where he hopes to entice the public with his photographs.
Despite being busy entertaining photography enthusiasts across the world with his photographs and spreading the joy of being behind a camera, Sandun is enthusiastic about teaching the fine art of taking a good picture. In that spirit, he is all set to launch interactive, fully immersive four day workshop sessions on photography.
Elaborating further Sandun said: “The interactive four day sessions on photography that I hope to launch very soon are open for everyone are meant to inspire and teach photography enthusiasts to master new techniques and improve their picture taking skills. These sessions, touch on both the theoretical and practical aspect of photography and can be enjoyed professionals like doctors, engineers, architects among others who want to learn photography as a stress buster or a hobby. Considering the busy lives that these professionals lead, the sessions will only be conducted for two hours a day. The sessions can be conducted as a group or individually. I’m excited about this new venture, especially because I get to interact with likeminded individuals who have an inherent passion for photography. This is the first time that a workshop of this nature has been launched by a professional photographer of this calibre.”
