Singer Sri Lanka demonstrated its continuous commitment to supporting the education sector by coming forward as the Chief Sponsor of the Logos Hope Floating Book Fair. The Logos Hope is the world’s largest floating book fair and is currently docked at the Colombo harbour as part of its tour of Asia. The ship opened its doors to the Sri Lankan public from 22 October and is expected to be in Colombo until 12 November.
Through the initiative, Singer Sri Lanka will power the crew of the Logos Hope in their mission to bring knowledge to the hands of millions of people worldwide. This isn’t the famed floating book fair’s first visit to Colombo, but this visit will mark the ship’s last trip to Sri Lankan shores for the next eight years.
“The 400 crew members of the ship hail from a multitude of backgrounds and countries but they are brought together by their common goal of sharing love, knowledge and good literature. As one of Sri Lanka’s most responsible corporate citizens, we at Singer recognise this drive to bring about positive change and are delighted to come forward as Chief Sponsor,” said
Singer Sri Lanka Director – Operations Chandana Samarasinghe, as he handed over the cheque to the Logos Hope team.
Samarasinghe also alluded to Logos Hope’s peripheral activities that augment the book fair operations. “In their previous visits to our shores, the crew members of the Logos Hope were involved in aid projects, including well digging, hygiene pack donation, installation of clean water systems, and free eye testing and eye glasses.” Samarasinghe further added that Singer has completed one project in collaboration with the crew of the Logos Hope and have planned to rollout a few more activities during the course of Logos Hope’s stay in Colombo. “Chief among these projects will include visits to children’s homes, re-painting underprivileged schools and providing support to hospitals,” Samarasinghe said.
Logos Hope offers over 5,000 titles in a variety of subjects that will kindle the innate curiosity of children and adults. The Logos Hope book fair opened to the public from 22 October to 12 November. Opening hours are 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. from Sundays to Tuesdays and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Wednesdays to Saturdays.
Recognised as one of the Most Respected Entities in Sri Lanka, Singer is continually seeking ways of making a positive impact on Sri Lankan society.
