Kumar Pereira of MasterChef fame is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka, next week to begin his debut culinary journey, hosted by experts in experiential travel Sri Lanka in style in partnership with Jetwing Hotels.     Pereira’s Culinary Journey starts from 15 to 24 January, and will take up to 12 lucky people on an incredible culinary journey dotted with personal cooking demonstrations across beautiful boutique hotels throughout the 10-day itinerary at exclusive properties.

Jetwing Lagoon in Negombo, travelling up to the Cultural Triangle to Jetwing Vil Uyana, around to Park Street Mews in Colombo, the official Colombo host and back up to the highlands at Jetwing St. Andrews and ending with a grand finale at Jetwing Lighthouse. According to a statement released by Pereira, the trip combines a sharing of memories, tastes and food: old and new, inspired by what he grew up with and things he has learned from where he has lived over the years.

Pereira said, “Food is for sharing, with family and friends and nothing gives me more pleasure than cooking for those I love and know.”  Throughout the journey, guests will observe demonstrations and listen to Kumar’s stories of growing up in such an inspirational island.  Each event will begin with cocktails, followed by a live demonstration of a Kumar dish, after which a four course dinner will be served. The evening will draw to a close with the opportunity to meet a true MasterChef legend in the flesh.  In the case of Jetwing St. Andrew’s, the cool climate of the highlands lends itself well to a different event; a modern take on a traditional English High Tea.  Passes for each of the events will be made available online, as well as on location.

Corporate supporters of the event are the official bank/credit card NTB (American Express), official telecommunications sponsor Dialog Axiata, official spice sponsor McCurries spices and official media sponsor ETV. Born in Sri Lanka, Kumar was among the 12 finalists in season three of MasterChef Australia, and also one of the show’s oldest contestants at 62, becoming a surprise hit of the show.  Kumar spent the 1950s and 1960s growing up in Sri Lanka. His passion to cook started when his mother came home from a trip broad with a pasta machine.  After working in London he lived in Hong Kong for 18 years, working with studios and agencies, and teaching graphic design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic.   In 1983 he started his own design consultancy specialising in corporate graphics and publishing design.

He has designed many award winning publications including Discovery (Cathay Pacific in-flight magazine), Pacific (American Express card members’ magazine) and Serendib (the magazine of SriLankan Airlines).
