One of the most anticipated fashion designer competition in the country, Zainab Ammarah’s ‘Up and Coming Fashion Designer of the Year 2014’ held its quarter finals at the Mt. Lavinia Hotel recently. Considered as a platform for raw talent, in its 6th consecutive occasion this year, received a record breaking 300 entries of which 85 entries were selected for the quarter finals.
Fashion enthusiasts from all parts of Sri Lanka were put to task when they were requested to illustrate their inspirations under three categories including evening wear, casual wear and men’s wear.
This theoretical and practical interpretation provided ample space for the 85 quarter finalists to sketch the best attire which would select them to the next level of the competition.

Interest in the event has only kept growing, with participation from around the country including urban and rural areas as well as leading design schools and universities and I am today witnessing a huge amount of creativity which is in Sri Lanka and no doubt, these individuals will challenge the industry in the years to come.”
