Standard Chartered’s priority banking will present to discerning music lovers ‘the Taal Tantra experience’ featuring internationally renowned tabla virtuoso Pundit Tanmoy Bose, on 21 February at the Lionel Wendt Theatre.

The Taal Tantra experience has been lauded by critics as ‘an exhilarating mix of East meets West’ for their distinctive combinations of Indian ragas, modern, jazz, rock and other forms of music, in a beautiful and unique sound. Standard Chartered CEO Anirvan Ghosh Dastidar, speaking of Maestro Bose and the Taal Tantra experience said, “We are truly privileged to be able to bring the work of this extremely gifted new age percussionist who has performed with the musical legends, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan as early as his college days, and the greatest ambassador of Indian classical music Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar who invited him to play regularly with him around the world, to an audience of music lovers in Sri Lanka.”  Pundit Tanmoy Bose, who has toured alongside Ravi and Anoushka Shankar, and four exceptional musicians, who he met after a performance in Berlin, comprise the line-up for the fusion project the Taal Tantra experience.  The music is ‘a meditation on rhythm’, a rough translation of the meaning behind Taal Tantra, combining both Indian classical music with European jazz, it transcends boundaries of specific styles. The Taal Tantra experience is world music at its best. Standard Chartered in introducing the music of the Taal Tantra experience to a local audience is proud to be associated with yet another initiative that supports art and culture in Sri Lanka.  The Bank partners with the Taj Samudra, who will be the hospitality partners of the event.
