Theatre Fest 2012 to hit the boards this month

Theatre Fest 2012, the inter-school drama competition themed ‘Aspire to Excel,’ organised by Alethea International School, Aspirations Education, Edexcel and The University of Canberra in association with Trinity Guildhall London, will take stage from 25 to 27 October 2012 at the Bishop’s College Auditorium, Colombo.

The drama festival is open to all schools in Sri Lanka and is being organised by Alethea International School for the third consecutive year.

Speaking about this year’s competition Kumari Hapugalle Perera – Chairman Alethea International School, “We are honoured to be the organisers of this competition for the third consecutive year with two leading education institutes, Aspirations Education and Edexcel.

“This is the only theatre festival which is directly connected with the grade eight speech and drama syllabus in the Trinity Guildhall. Not only the winners of Theatre Fest 2012 are eligible but all the schools that participate and pass the examination will receive two valuable UCAS points to further their studies internationally.”

The three-day event will host the top four schools at the grand finale on 27 October 2012, with awards and prizes for the best director, best comedy, best tragedy, supporting crew and cast. The best actor and actress will be offered a trip to Canberra, Australia sponsored by University of Canberra and Aspirations Education.

This opportunity will be offered to students to experience Canberra and a day in the life of University of Canberra to mingle with international students and faculty at the prestigious university. That will inspire them realise their future career goals through getting exposed to the gamut of avenues available which will help them further their education, skill levels and ambitions.

University of Canberra (UC) offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses covering six main learning areas: applied science, health, art and design, business, government and law, education and information sciences and engineering.

The university educates students for approximately 30 different professions, among them information technology, management, law, accounting, engineering, teaching, modern languages, marketing, journalism, design, architecture, biomedical science, psychology, nursing, environmental science and sports studies. UC has one of the highest employment rates for graduates in Australia.

Anitra Perera, representing Alethea International School explained that ‘Theatre Fest 2012’ is not only an inter-school drama competition, but it is also an examination which is connected to the Grade 8 drama syllabus of the Trinity School of Drama and Speech.

In order to ensure transparency and fair assessments, neutral judges/examiners from the Trinity Guildhall London will be judging the best interpretations made by each school on the greatest plays written by William Shakespeare.
