The fifth annual Summer Camp event organised by Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts in collaboration with Cinnamon Nature Trails was held from 9-11 August at the Bentota Beach Hotel. Cinnamon Nature Trails is the award-winning wildlife and adventure tourism division of Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts and Sri Lanka’s leading eco-excursion provider with years of experience in the field. They take pride in bringing everyone around closer to nature while instilling positive thoughts through team building and challenges that take you beyond the comfort zones. This year’s event was moved to Bentota, thus breaking a five-year tradition of hosting the event at the Cinnamon Lodge in Habarana, in order to present the children, most of whom have been present for all five previous years, with a new and unique experience. In order to take a step up from the previous years’ events, a few added personnel were drafted in to help with the scheduled activities. Graham and Eli Brownlie from the ‘Entertrainers’ were present to conduct a series of zumba and dance fitness classes for both kids and adults alike as well as to organise a family amazing race with which the weekend was eventually concluded. The camp commenced on Friday afternoon with the traditional hoisting of the national flag after which all 55 children  present participated in a series of team building exercises and challenges. The night was spent camping out on the lawn of the hotel, playing charades around the campfire and tucking into marshmallows and hot chocolate before the exhausted campers finally called it a day. Saturday morning began with a series of physical exercises conducted by Entertrainers followed by sandcastle building contests, archery and watersport rides (which were the most popular events of the camp) after which both the kids and the parents were given dance classes, conducted by the Entertrainers with the aim of performing on stage later that night. The finale of the camp was a gala musical event in which the kids and the moms got on stage and performed their new dance routines while the audience indulged in some gourmet delights prepared by Bentota Beach Hotel. The Nature Trails and the Entertrainers teams put together a ‘Family Amazing Romp’ on Sunday morning with about 10 brave families taking part. They were put through a two-hour test of several challenges involving team work and patience with the winning family walking away with an overnight stay at Cinnamon Bey, Beruwala. This was followed by the awarding of certificates to all participants involved, thus bringing an end to a yet another memorable Summer Camp organised by Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts.  “It was a most thrilling and rewarding experience to see the kids and their parents thoroughly enjoy themselves at this year’s event and there is no doubt that next year’s event will be even bigger and better than the last,” said Chitral Jayatileke, Head of Eco Tourism, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts.
