Unilever Beauty Council inspires Sri Lankan women to discover their beautiful best

Unilever Sri Lanka brings together industry opinion leaders to redefine the value of beauty in the country

Unilever Sri Lanka, in a revolutionary move, launched the ‘Beauty Council’, an industry body consisting of the most influential industry experts to inspire women of Sri Lanka to realise the true value of beauty. Launched in the presence of Unilever Sri Lanka Chairperson Shaziya Syed, at an event in Colombo, the Beauty Council will aim to inspire women to be their beautiful best by redefining perceptions of beauty in Sri Lanka.

Commenting on this very special initiative, Unilever Sri Lanka Country Marketing Director Siddharth Banerjee said, “As a company that endeavours to continuously add value to the lives of Sri Lankans, it is indeed an honour and a pleasure to introduce the Beauty Council to Sri Lanka. This Beauty Council is the focus of a long-term plan to create a national movement to encourage Sri Lankans to see the true value of beauty and the role it plays in an individual’s progress as well the advancement of the society around them.”

The Beauty Council will comprise of industry powerhouses and inspiring role models who have made significant contributions in their diverse fields of expertise. Beauty Gurus Ramani Fernando and Nayana Karunaratne, fashion powerhouses Ajai Vir Singh and Fouzul Hameed, renowned fashion designers Darshi Keerthisena and Indeewari Yapa Abeywardena, award winning film actress Pooja Umashankar, former Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe and now etiquette mentor Rozanne Diasz, National Director for three international pageants Prasanna Pathmanathan and Head of Beauty Categories for Unilever Sri Lanka Sharmila Bandara will comprise of the Beauty Council and will play an active role in inspiring and educating Sri Lankan females to be more confident and empowered, every day.  Speaking on this unprecedented endeavour, Sharmila Bandara said, “The Unilever Beauty Council will be a movement to increase understanding, acceptance and inspiration towards making women not just look beautiful but feel beautiful and to be the best they can be.”

The Council will lead extensive initiatives in educating various segments on the stigma surrounding beauty in Sri Lanka and its effects, fostering female entrepreneurship, imparting best global practices to the beauty industry, self-grooming and education on etiquette, as well as programs on upping the fashion appreciation and personal grooming of young Sri Lankan men.

As a responsible global expert in beauty and personal care, Unilever Sri Lanka affirms its commitment to empower and celebrate the beautiful and confident women of today.
