  • Youth empowerment through better access to education and healthcare
A capella group, Voice.Print will partner SriLankan Cares in its 14 August concert, to create awareness on the youth empowerment projects steered by the community development arm of the national carrier. The partnership will see Voice.Print working with SriLankan Cares to raise awareness on its projects to develop child education and healthcare; the two top priorities identified by the community development arm of the national carrier. SriLankan Airlines Chief Executive Officer Kapila Chandrasena said: “SriLankan Cares is pleased to have Voice.Print on board, in its mission to empower our future generation through developing healthcare facilities and educational opportunities. As the national carrier, our service extends beyond balance sheets and we believe that empowering our future generation through improving education and healthcare facilities is a sure way to mould healthy and law-abiding citizens.   We consider community development a vital part of our mission and we have been steering many projects to improve the living conditions of the youth in Sri Lanka. The charity arm of SriLankan will continue to care for those in need, with many innovative and sustainable projects in the future.” Voice.Print is also working on a special song for SriLankan Cares, which will be played on board SriLankan flights and in other communication in aid of the Airline’s CSR initiatives.  “It is something that is very close to all of us,” says Michael Sathasivam, the deep bass voice of the group and its founder director. “We have always supported charitable causes through our music and performances. We take great pride in doing our bit for society and have been ever willing to support efforts in youth empowerment and development.” Voice.Print has been associated with SriLankan Airlines from the time the group first flew to China to participate in the World Choir Games back in 2006. “We have done a lot of work with them since and now we are looking at building an on-going relationship with the airline and SriLankan Cares.” Since its inception in 2003, SriLankan Cares, the community development arm of SriLankan Airlines focused on the education and welfare of children throughout the country. In keeping with this mission, SriLankan Cares recently undertook a project to build a Children’s Psychiatric Ward at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital Colombo. In recognition of the continuous efforts at developing and enhancing the child healthcare across the country, SriLankan Cares was recently awarded with the prestigious Corporate Social Responsibility Health Promotion Award for the Impactful Healthcare at Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Awards 2014. As SriLankan Cares embarks on its next decade of services, it will keep extending its helping hand towards a wider segment of communities with proposals being already made to establish a Multimedia Health Promotion Unit at Maharagama Cancer Hospital. Also in the line-up is a project for the prevention of violence and sexual abuse among the children in Sri Lanka.
