Sri Lanka’s first-ever exclusive wall paper and 3D wall tiles showroom celebrated its first anniversary recently, offering its customers an infinite array of new design options and special discounts for the festive season. Wall Art Managing Director Kishani Kaluarachchi said: “We started this venture one year ago to introduce a new concept to the decorative landscape in Sri Lanka.

Today the concept has been adopted by many architects, interior design companies, corporates and households. The projects that we have completed are a testament to this and we are happy to have been able to introduce such options to our valued customers.”

Wall Art today still remains as the only exclusive retailer of globally renowned brands of wallpaper in Sri Lanka. They offer over 5,000 designs of wallpaper from Europe and the US, to suit varied tastes and budgets.

In addition they also provide other design options such as 3D tiles for walls ideal for hotels, restaurants, bars, shopping malls, apartment complexes and homes. Some of the projects completed include Tamarind Hill Hotel, Grand Hotel Udawalawe, Club Kama, MGM Grand Casino, Vision Care Opticians, PC House, Expolanka Freight and Ashok Leyland.

Painted finishes, although great in some spaces, don’t equate to the opulence a few rolls of wallpaper can provide. Wallpaper can be one of the most dramatic and instant ways of transforming a home, business or office.

With one simple roll, a room can be infused with your own personal style. The fact that most wallpaper is washable a little known fact in countries where wallpaper is not used widely, is another factor for the increasing trend towards wall paper use in Sri Lanka.

Customers can also try an ‘accent or feature wall’ to add a layer of sophistication to a room for a fraction of the cost. Some of the key benefits using wall paper include: can be installed in a matter of hours on any type of wall including plastered brick walls, wooden or gypsum walls; painted surfaces usually require more maintenance as they need to be cleaned more often and may require repainting every two to three years; wallpaper generally has a life span of between eight to 10 years; can be cleaned using a sponge and soapy water.

Also the wallpaper retains its original colour; Covers hairline cracks on walls that paint is incapable of doing; wallpaper will not catch fire and spread flames; improves the value of your house, apartment or office by adding character to your walls; non woven wallpaper is easily strippable and leaves no residue when removed.

Wall Art has a team of skilled installers trained overseas who are capable of wallpapering a room in four to six hours. All adhesives are imported from Europe to ensure that the highest standards are maintained. A bonus is that all installations are done free with all purchases of wallpaper. These eco-friendly wallpapers are manufactured from material that emits no aerosols or lead. When installed in air-conditioned rooms, Wall Art’s vinyl range of wallpaper does not allow the external transfer of cool air.

This permits one to switch off the air conditioner sooner, since the room retains the cool air. Due to this, it is estimated that a household can save up to 7% on air-conditioning bills. Some ranges of wallpaper are made from wood from sustainably managed forests. In fact most importantly, all these wallpapers are recyclable.  Additionally, Wall Art is the first and exclusive distributor of 3D wall tiles in Sri Lanka offering over 22 designs to match specific tastes. The 20”x 20” 3D tiles can be used to create unique walls at home, in apartment complexes, hotels, casinos, restaurants, night clubs, or offices.

They are lightweight and durable and also extremely easy to install. Made from pure plant fibre material, they are eco-friendly, sound absorbent and provide thermal insulation. Tiles are available in white and can be painted over in any colour to match your interiors.

Kaluarachchi explained: “During this period we have been fortunate enough to further our offering with complementary products such as HP customised wall paper using Latex technology where the main advantage is that you can get the exact design or landscape you want especially useful in creating specialty or themed rooms, such as in a child’s bedroom, a game room or an office canteen.

“We also ventured into high-end Lighting with the introduction of Light Art dealing with chandeliers and floor and table top lamps.”
