Wesley College Colombo presents ‘Fusion 2014’, a gala extravaganza of music, song and dance in celebration of the 140th anniversary of the College this year. Based on the theme ‘We are One’ the show unfolds at 7 p.m. on Saturday 24 May at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre under the distinguished patronage of Prof. J.B. Dissanayake.
Guests of Honour at the occasion will be the celebrated danseuse Upekha Chitrasena whose father was a distinguished old boy of Wesley College. She will be joined by the award-winning actress Sangeetha Weeraratne and well-known musician Menaka de Fonseka Sahabandu.
Fusion 2014 will treat the audience to a delectable two hours of music, song and dance across the five continents, from waltzing Matildas, New Zealand’s ‘haka’, African drums and dances to South American tunes, traditional Sinhala and Tamil dance items and lots more.
Europe will be represented in the opening act with ‘Sing’, the special song that was composed to celebrate the Queen’s 60th Jubilee. A special feature will also be the appearance of the newly formed Wesley College Chorale.
The show is directed and produced by Rushan Hewawasam, a former old boy and head prefect who currently lives in Australia.
“There is a great deal of excitement among the boys, from the Primary Grades right up to the A/Ls, despite the long hours of patient practice. This show takes on an even greater significance given the 140th anniversary of Wesley College. Enthusiasm levels are thus, understandably, at an all-time high,” Hewawasam said.
