Daya Aviation, one of the Daya Group’s subsidiaries, will be introducing a brand new Airbus Helicopter EC130T2 to Sri Lanka - making it one of the largest helicopters available in the country for commercial services - in March 2015. “This marks a tremendous milestone in the company’s 11-year growth,” Daya Aviation said. With the addition of the new helicopter, Daya Aviation will be the only IATA-approved aviation company in Sri Lanka offering both fixed wing and helicopter charter services under one roof. The company already owns two fixed wing aircraft: a four-seater Beech Craft Baron operating out of Ratmalana Airport and a 19-seater Jetstream 32 operating out of the United States. The EC130 T2 is the world’s best-selling, high-performance, multifunctional single-engine helicopter used around the world in varied missions, including helicopter emergency medical services, passenger transport and aerial work. It offers the most spacious cabin in its class for one pilot and up to seven passengers. Reputed as the quietest helicopter in its class, it provides an exclusive level of comfort with an active anti-vibration system and excellent visibility with a panoramic view for all passengers, combined with the latest technology and safety features. Its Fenestron shrouded tail rotor and automatic variable rotor speed control result in a significantly reduced external sound level that meets the strictest rules for flights required by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and America’s Grand Canyon National Park. “With the change in Government which is now far more pro-business, we are confident that the domestic aviation industry will now be commercially viable. Under the guidance of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Sri Lanka is now finally poised for real economic development where with high levels of FDI projected, investors, highs-pending tourists and corporates will require helicopter charter services in order to save both time and money,” said Group Director Chamindra Gamage said. “With Minister Faiszer Musthapha as the Minister of Aviation having already taken several steps in transforming the industry, it is clearly evident that he has a long-term vision towards making Sri Lanka an aviation hub in South East Asia and we look forward to seeing a tremendous growth in this industry in the next few months. The brand new helicopter is state-of-the-art, and with this addition we aim to be one of the pioneering companies in the local aviation industry. We have also invested in a comprehensive support package to ensure the highest safety standards in our operations. In addition, we plan to provide special services such as medical evacuations as well, in the ensuing months.” “We are delighted to see the EC130 T2 arriving in Sri Lanka. We have made considerable efforts in helping with the development of the country’s helicopter market and will continue to do so, as many segments will derive great benefits from the use of helicopters, including tourism, harbour flights, oil and gas, emergency medical services and aerial work,” said Vice President of Commercial Marketing at Airbus Helicopters Southeast Asia, Lionel Sinai-Sinelnikoff. The Daya Group commenced operations in 1984, starting out initially as a construction company. Over the years, it has expanded into one of Sri Lanka’s pre-eminent privately-owned conglomerates, continuing to grow through strategic investment in several areas of business including apparel manufacture, construction, transport, fashion, micro-finance, household and consumer electronics, agriculture cultivation, plastics, packaging, printing, aviation and tourism.
