On Friday 8 November, the Chartered Management Institute held for the first time the CMI Communities Live event at the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo.
The event was attended by High Commissioner to Sri Lanka from the United Kingdom Andrew Patrick as the Chief Guest, and CMI UK Chief Executive Officer Ann Francke served as the Guest of Honour. Other delegates from the UK were also in attendance as well as high ranking professionals from Sri Lanka. The theme of the event was navigating change in uncertain times. Attendees heard from a distinguished panel of experts who spoke on topics such as entrepreneurial success and strategies to navigate change in uncertain times, attendees also benefited from hearing from these experts in a more informal fireside chat setting. The event highlighted the key role of chartered managers in improving professional standards and business success at both and a local global level. In her address Anne Francke noted the significant expansion of CMI membership over the last three years which in her view “reflects the increasing recognition of the value of professional management qualifications and demand for skilled leadership across the region.”
The event concluded with a presentation of certificates by Anne Francke for New Chartered Companion, Chartered Fellow/Member and Fellow Certificates, Certificates of Recognition for CMgr of the Year Award Shortlisting and the Past President’s Felicitation.
Fayaz Saleem was one of the recipients of the Past President’s Felicitation and was recognised for his management excellence. Saleem was the founder of TMC and a past president of CMI. CMI Sri Lanka extends its congratulations to all past presidents whose unwavering effort contributed to the success of CMI Sri Lanka.
CMI’s current president Kamaya Perera spoke to attendees at the event, “CMI’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of managers and leaders will play a pivotal role in strengthening the management profession in Sri Lanka and enriching the strong educational ties between the UK and Sri Lanka.”
The interest in the event well exceeded expectations and was a resounding success.
