The Management Club (TMC) Mt. Lavinia, in collaboration with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), successfully hosted a timely and insightful event on 3 October, at the Liberty by Scope Cinemas in Colpetty. The topic, ‘Managing the Multi-Generational Workforce: Strategies for Effective Management and Collaboration’ drew a substantial audience from diverse professional backgrounds, all keen to explore innovative ways to manage and engage employees across generations.

With a specific focus on Gen Z, the event addressed key strategies for managing a multi-generational workforce, emphasising effective management and collaboration across age groups. The resource personnel featured industry leaders such as KPMG Sri Lanka Partner Kamaya Perera, and Maliban Biscuits Group Chief Executive Officer Ravi Jayawardene. Their insights into workplace flexibility, inclusivity, and professional development were complemented by the perspectives of the event’s moderator, Global Rubber Industries (GRI) Human Resources Director Chamindra Perera Dassanayake.

Key discussion points included:

  • Understanding Generational Characteristics
  • Communication Styles and Preferences
  • Motivation and Engagement
  • Inclusivity and Diversity in the Workplace
  • Professional Development and Career Goals
  • Flexibility and Innovation
  • Conflict Resolution and Collaboration

The discussions offered actionable takeaways, particularly regarding the integration of Gen Z into the workforce. As this generation begins to dominate the labour market, understanding their unique values, expectations, and communication preferences has become crucial for maintaining harmony and productivity across organisations. Participants gained practical insights into how they can foster a culture of inclusivity, adapt to the flexible working styles preferred by younger generations, and harness the strengths of each age group for collective success.

The event concluded with a lively Q&A session, where attendees had the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers. Following the formal presentations, participants enjoyed refreshments and networking opportunities, exchanging ideas and building valuable connections.

TMC Mt. Lavinia would like to extend its gratitude to the participants, resource personnel, and event partners, including KPMG Sri Lanka, Galadari Hotel, Berjaya Hotels & Resorts, and Pegasus Reef, for their contribution to the event’s success.

For those who missed this enlightening session, TMC looks forward to hosting more such events in the future, aimed at addressing the evolving challenges of modern workplaces.
