The Management Club of Mount Lavinia launched a unique management competence development program for undergraduates titled ‘Campus to C-Suite’ (CtoC) with the aim of preparing undergraduates for corporate jobs. This program falls under the management development pillar of the TMC club, which focuses on uplifting the management competence of three sectors: SMEs, Corporates, and Undergraduates.

The inaugural session of the CtoC program was launched at the Department of Marketing Management, University of Kelaniya. Hemas Consumer Brands partnered with TMC for the inaugural session as the strategic HR partner.

“TMC Mount Lavinia is happy to launch the CtoC program to prepare undergraduates for future corporate jobs. TMC, a pool of corporate professionals has understood the knowledge gap amongst undergraduates when they come for internships and jobs. Therefore we decided to partner with local universities to launch a tailor-made management competence development program,” stated TMC Mt. Lavinia Vice Chairman and Project Chair for Management Development Prashan Costa.

The inaugural session was conducted by TMC Club Vice Chairman Costa, and Executive Committee Member Mario Alphael. The first session covered content under the theme ‘Are You Corporate Ready?’ where Costa spoke about the realities in modern-day private sector organisations and the gap between the university and corporate jobs. He enlightened the students on how self-awareness and awareness of corporate jobs and the macro environment can affect the success of a corporate job. And how to prepare themselves in terms of skills, knowledge, and attitude.

Mario Alphael discussed the importance of creating an excellent first impression. He emphasised how an undergraduate should be concerned about their identity in terms of personal hygiene and dress and personal grooming for young professionals to create the right first impression. Further, Alphael enlightened the students on essential tips for developing a good curriculum vitae as it’s the first interaction with the corporates before even seeing the applicant. Hemas Consumer Brands partnered with TMC for the session as the strategic HR partner, where representatives from the company were present to enlighten the students on potential job opportunities at Hemas, especially for the marketing graduates. Further, Hemas Consumer was generous to give personal grooming kits to the audience.

University of Kelaniya Department of Marketing Management Head Professor Ravi Dissanayake stated that it is a timely need that local graduates are educated on the requirements of the corporate field and thanked TMC for taking the time to create such a valuable program to address the needs of the future graduates. TMC Mt. Lavinia wishes to thank Professor Ravi Dissanayake and the academic staff at the Department of Marketing Management, the University of Kelaniya, for providing the opportunity to partner with them. The club wishes to conduct more sessions with universities in the coming months and urges the university academics, career guidance units, and student associations to email them at [email protected] if they require to bring TMC to their university.
