Muthumuni de Silva who is an active member of the Management Club – Kalutara, was elected District Governor of Lions Clubs International – District 306 A1 at the Annual District Convention held recently at the BMICH in Colombo.

He was installed as District Governor by the International President of Lions Clubs International, Dr. Jitsuhiro Yamada at the International Convention held in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA.

Muthumuni hails from Balapitiya and had his education at Sri Siddhartha Maha Vidyalaya, Balapitiya. He excelled in studies, sports and other extracurricular activities.

A hotelier by profession, he has been a very successful businessman in the Gem and Jewellery trade and is the Chairman/Managing Director of Muthumuni Gems & Jewellery, Muthumuni Gem Centre, Muthumuni Textiles & Handicrafts as well as two star class hotels – Muthumuni Ayurveda Beach Resort and Muthumuni River Resort, Hotel in Moragalla and Beruwala.

Muthumuni joined the Lions organisation in the Lionistic Year 2001/2002 as a Charter Member of the Lions Club of Kaluwamodera Moragalla and was elected its club President in the year 2004/2005 which gave him an opportunity to serve the less fortunate and underprivileged of our country and he worked his way up actively and steadily to become the District Governor of this great international organisation which is a secular, non-political service organisation, founded by Melvin Jones in 1917 and has a worldwide membership of over 1.4 million in more than 46,000 clubs in over 200 countries around the globe.

He has chosen as his theme: ‘Dedication – The Way to Success’ and will work within a four point program which has been drawn up.

He has launched on a very ambitious program of work for the year ahead, which has been meticulously planned out for execution with excellence and will also link the Management Club in some of his programs and activities.
