SEC accreditation for SLID Director Training program on Board Leadership

The Sri Lanka Institute of Directors (SLID) Chairman Pravir Samarasinghe and CEO Lilani Perera signed an MOU with the Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Dr. Nalaka Godahewa and Deputy Director General Dhammika Perera this week, wherein the SEC endorsed the SLID Board Leadership Training program and both parties agreed to work together to recognise this as an accredited program of the SEC for directors of companies listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange in Sri Lanka. SLID developed this Board Leadership Training program for directors with the assistance of the Global Corporate Governance Forum of the International Finance Corporation (IFC). This intensive training program which is based on an internationally tried and tested methodology uses a combination of adult learning techniques and corporate governance content. This unique Director training program uplifts the skills of directors and enhances their effectiveness and thereby brings about improved board and organisational performance. The contents of this training, has been segmented in to four parts containing four modules each. Part l Corporate Governance; will explore the roles played by the shareholders, boards, directors and executive managers and other stakeholders within the corporate governance system. Part ll The Board: explores the directors duties and liabilities and board’s role and responsibilities in this framework whilst Part lll Strategic Leadership; explores the role of the board in formulating and implementing strategy and managing enterprise risk. Part IV Financial Stewardship and Accountability; will explore the financial stewardship obligations of the board to the shareowners. In addition, this program will be up-to-date with all Sri Lankan Company Law, SEC Rules and Regulations including the Acts, Codes and Rules and all other Statutes. SLID, with a Membership of over 630, is the sole representative body for Directors in Sri Lanka and is the prime forum for Director Education and guidance of directors on Boardroom Stewardship.  Being the premier forum serving the corporate needs of current and future Directors of the private and public sector, its principal aim is to contribute to the professional advancement of directors and to foster leadership characteristics beneficial to the company, community and the nation. In addition SLID serves as a meeting point where members share best practices, discuss contemporary issues and develop peer networks.
