Industry can expect a very keenly contested final which will take place at the 80 Club on 26 August 2013
The critically acclaimed Young Spikes Sri Lanka advertising competition powered by the 4As with Metal Factor, is set to educate and showcase local talent in the field of advertising. Deviating from the present belief to the effect that innovative thoughts are dying qualities in the corporate world we live in today, since creativity and innovation are unnecessary in the trying economic times the world is facing at present, Young Spikes is a celebration of creative and innovative thought in the advertising industry.
Young Spikes is part of the festival of creativity that is Spikes Asia, and a stage on which budding talent can showcase their skills and original ideas for the world to see. Competitors must be aged 28 years or under and be employed in advertising/communications businesses in a skill discipline relevant to their chosen competition.
A pre-selection process is first held locally across countries in the Asia Pacific region where, in the case of the Young Spikes Sri Lanka, is organised by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies (4As) and Metal Factor, the Sri Lankan representative for the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Team representatives from local ad agencies are put forward to battle it out in the integrated and media categories.
The agency heads of the major advertising agencies in Sri Lanka have currently been briefed on the competition and as of now, 58 contestants have already competed and the finalist has been chosen, signalling a hunger and drive to display talents.
In addition to there being much prestige in taking part in the event, the Young Spikes also presents itself and stands out from other advertising competitions, which are a mix of fun and learning opportunities, by it being more focused on education and acquiring specialist knowledge. This makes it a priceless learning opportunity and therefore, quite beneficial and advantageous to up and comers in the Sri Lankan advertising industry.
“Nurturing young talent and giving them a stage on which they can showcase their talent is of utmost importance in sustaining creativity in the advertising industry,” said Chalaka Gajabahu, the president of 4As Sri Lanka regarding the soon to commence Young Spikes competition. “So it is our utmost pleasure to have our association supporting this initiative.”
A 50% scholarship is up for grabs for the winning teams, in both the integrated and media categories. The competition was held between 15-17 August and the finals will be held on 22 August.
The talented winners of the Sri Lankan leg of Young Spikes will then be sent to the Spikes Asia Festival of Creativity where they then get to battle teams from other Asia Pacific countries for the grand prize at Young Spikes held in Singapore and starting on 15 September.
