Broadcaster and journalist Faraz Shauketaly launched Studio R in Sri Lanka yesterday.
Studio R will produce ‘The Turning Point’, a political and current affairs discussion program hosted by Faraz.
The purpose-built studio facility, complete with a creative team of editors and marketing professionals, will create content for a variety of organisations. Studio R was named after the famed media mogul Killi Rajamahendran.
Faraz told the guests present at the launch, “Mr. Rajamahendran launched my career in broadcasting, and this is my personal tribute to one of Sri Lanka’s ‘Big Men.’ It is my hope that we will be able to further journalism and broadcasting in Sri Lanka — a vision Mr. Rajamahendran was passionate about.”
Attending the event and formally opening Studio R was the Capital Maharajah Group Chairman Shashi Rajamahendran, joined by others from the Capital Maharaja Group.
Several prominent politicians and business leaders were present, marking the beginning of a new broadcasting culture in television journalism.
Faraz added that the time was right for independent, investigative journalism, especially as the people of Sri Lanka have ushered in a government conducive to addressing endemic corruption and wastage.
