Sri Lanka’s 12th Effie Awards is set to take place on 15 February at the Monarch Imperial. The coveted event is highly anticipated and celebrated by advertising agencies and marketers both locally and globally as the most distinguished honour in the industry. The awards recognise all forms of effective marketing communications that contribute towards a brand’s success while also providing significant insights to effective marketing strategy.
Since its inception in 1968 by the New York American Marketing Association, the Effie Awards has embraced the individuals and the companies with relentless creativity who dared to find a way to create insights that resulted in effective work.
Effie Awards 2021 Head of Jury Gamika De Silva said: “It was indeed an honour to head the jury with a team of professionals packed with a plethora of experience. I was overwhelmed to witness the extremely high number of entries which made the lives of my team of jurors tough, as we had to do justice to all those entries especially as this was a bumper year. Me and my team witnessed some good work which was at very high standards. Of course, there was a lot of learning as well which we are looking forward to sharing with the industry. I congratulate all the winners as they were truly poised apart from the rest. I’d like to congratulate the finalists as well as those who didn’t get through to the final as you had the courage to apply your good work in a period where all odds were against us.”
Effie Awards 2021 Project Chairperson Kavindra Rajapaksa said: “In any other year, receiving the highest ever number of Effie entries would’ve been a great pat on the back, but during a time which challenged the marketing and advertising industries to an extent where people were seriously questioning their job security, this is a testament to the passion and the relentless spirit of our Sri Lankan creative community who found a way to stand by their brands and people to deploy work that brought about much needed inspiration to a great many. I’m honoured to be chairing Effies in a year that has been challenging to say the least, especially since it’s a bumper year. But, thanks to my amazing committee and the dedicated team at Sri Lanka Institute of marketing we hope this will be an Effie gala to remember. My special thanks to the panel of jury that dedicated their time and efforts, the SLIM president, CEO and the Executive Committee for their continuous guidance and support and 4A’s as well as IAA for their continuous partnership to make Effies a reality despite the challenges.”
