SLIM Campus Kandy reopens state-of-the-art facilities and celebrates 25 years of excellence

SLIM Campus Kandy reopened its doors on 23 November 2024 after completing a significant refurbishment and several upgrades, including an additional new building. The occasion marked a significant milestone for SLIM Campus Kandy, which has been empowering aspiring marketers. The upgraded campus promises a modern, revitalised learning environment featuring state-of-the-art facilities to enrich student experiences. As a cornerstone for marketing education in the region for 25 years, SLIM Campus Kandy will now continue to nurture excellence in the field while providing a space for personal, academic, and professional growth.

The refurbishment reflects the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing’s (SLIM) dedication to delivering a high-quality education and learning experience supported by cutting-edge infrastructure. The new campus design even incorporates a “greenery concept”, which creates a refreshing and inspiring atmosphere for students. Smart classrooms, a free library, a members’ lounge, and a student recreation area are among the many upgrades. Additionally, introducing an on-campus café provides a vibrant space for students to collaborate, unwind, and recharge.

With the new upgrades and changes, SLIM Campus Kandy embodies SLIM’s enduring commitment to sustainability and inclusivity. Integrating eco-conscious design and an environment that prioritises student wellbeing, the campus takes a futuristic approach to education. This aligns with SLIM’s mission to nurture marketing professionals and positively contribute to society through responsible initiatives that emphasise innovation and environmental stewardship.

Speaking about the newly refurbished campus, SLIM President Gayan Perera said, “As the national body for marketing in Sri Lanka, we are proud to emphasise our unwavering commitment to providing the best possible facilities for our students. We are focused on creating a robust educational infrastructure that not only meets but exceeds the expectations of aspiring marketers, ensuring they have access to a world-class learning environment that empowers hem to achieve their goals.”  Meanwhile, SLIM Vice President of Education and Research Prof. Dewasiri N. Jayantha, discussed the importance of good marketing education for those aspiring to build a career in this competitive field, “The reopening of SLIM Campus Kandy marks a pivotal step in redefining marketing education in Sri Lanka. This upgraded campus combines cutting-edge infrastructure with a forward-thinking curriculum, equipping students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills for navigating the evolving global marketing landscape. By integrating emerging areas such as digital marketing, sustainability, and data analytics, we aim to produce competent professionals capable of driving innovation and meaningful change in their regional organisations and communities.” 

Beyond physical upgrades, the newly refurbished SLIM Campus Kandy embodies SLIM’s broader ambitions. Vice President of Events and Sustainability Projects Dr. Dilhan S. Jayatilleke explained, “We are excited to share our continued dedication to enhancing the student experience in Sri Lanka. We aim to build a state-of-the-art educational infrastructure across the Island that supports our students’ growth and success, equipping them with the tools and resources they need to excel in the dynamic marketing field.” 

Highlighting the strategic importance of the refurbishment, SLIM Project Chair and Honorary Assistant Secretary Asanka Perera said, “We are pleased to announce our strategic focus on enhancing the infrastructure of SLIM to meet the evolving needs of our students. We plan to introduce innovative educational programs and foster international collaborations to broaden our global reach. To support this vision, we are upgrading our classrooms and facilities to meet international standards, ensuring that we cater to the aspirations of the next generation of marketers. This initiative marks the beginning of a nationwide expansion of SLIM Campuses, starting with the reopening of SLIM Campus Kandy, which will serve as a model for future developments.”
