The only awards ceremony that recognises the voice of the people, the SLIM People’s Awards, announced its partnership with Kantar Sri Lanka as the research partner for its 2022 edition. Kantar LMRB is a world-renowned research company operating in Sri Lanka.

The People’s Awards is rewarded based on a scientific research process which recognises the favourite brands, personalities, organisations, advertisements, songs and artists that are close to the Sri Lankan hearts and minds. The uniqueness of being the only award that has the people as the jury makes People’s Awards an event most looked forward to, as it truly crowns those who have won the hearts of the public.

Initiated in 2006 by the national body for marketing in Sri Lanka, SLIM, People’s Awards was a brainchild of four remarkable persons; Nishan Navaratne — President of SLIM 2005, Wasantha Mallikarachchi — Vice President SLIM 2005, Rohan Somawansa — Project Chair 2006, and Shaheen Cader — Managing Director of Nielsen. Looking for a novel idea to replace the AD Awards, which had grown to become its own entity in the advertising industry, the founders created an event that was never done before. The result, an awards show where the people of the country would be the judges. This innovative and unique idea has gained momentum through the years among the public as well as become a driving force in the marketing industry.

Commenting on the partnership, SLIM Peoples Awards 2022 Project Chairman Shiraz Niyaz stated: “SLIM ensures that we always collaborate with the best partners to execute our actions to fulfil the aspirations of Sri Lankan marketers. It is an honour to have Kantar Sri Lanka on board as the Research Partner to ensure that the survey is done in the most scientific and transparent manner. The credibility of Kantar Sri Lanka adds immense recognition to the People’s Awards.”

The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) is the apex body for Sri Lankan marketers, which was founded in 1970 and subsequently incorporated by an act of Parliament in 1980, recognising it as the national body for marketing and a ‘not-for-profit’ organisation. SLIM is mandated to uplift the marketing profession in Sri Lanka and professionals from numerous industries in an honorary capacity.

Kantar LMRB has contributed to the industry by nurturing some of the best research talent in the country.
