Bharti Airtel, a leading global telecommunications company with operations in 20 countries across Asia and Africa, today announced that its ‘what’s inside your smart phone’ campaign in Sri Lanka has bagged the Bronze award at the Effie Awards 2013 held in Colombo.
While the gold and silver awards were not awarded, Airtel Lanka was one of the two brands to be ranked as a bronze winner in the telecommunications services industry category.
Commenting on the occasion, Bharti Airtel Lanka Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director Suren Goonewardene said: “With mobile internet and data solutions being the future of the telecommunications in Sri Lanka, the ‘what’s insides your smart phone campaign’ reinforces our brand’s focus on offering services that are innovative, affordable and relevant for the discerning mobile customer in Sri Lanka. We are thrilled that this idea and creative insight has resonated well with our youthful and ‘young-at-heart’ audience in the masses. Bagging a Bronze at the prestigious Effies this year is an exciting acknowledgement of the effectiveness and success brand Airtel achieved through this campaign – and we look forward to creating many more of such opportunities to enrich lives of our customers in Sri Lanka.”
Launched on 1 July 2013 with a promising online campaign on Facebook and YouTube, the media plan for Airtel’s ’what’s insides your smart phone campaign’ further expanded to communication on TV, radio, print and outdoor. This was supported by BTL activities to drive the message at a trade level and create customer excitement.
The Effie Awards 2013 were presented at a glittering ceremony held at Water’s Edge, Battaramulla on 31 January 2014. Airtel’s award was received by Head of Brands and Marketing Communications Charith de Chickera, along with JWT and Maddison Media teams.
The Effie Awards are organised by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing with the support of the 4As of Sri Lanka. This year the Effies received 79 entries of which 25were shortlisted for the awards. However the event saw only ten awards being presented.
