BBDO Lanka, the Sri Lankan affiliate of the global BBDO network, celebrated its second anniversary along with clients and a number of distinguished guests in characteristic form – by rooting for Sri Lanka. They cheered on the Sri Lankan team at the R. Premadasa Stadium as Sri Lanka played against South Africa in the first of three T20 matches that concluded South Africa’s tour of Sri Lanka on 2 August. BBDO Lanka MD Santosh Menon said of the occasion: “It gives me great pleasure to celebrate our second anniversary sitting here, rooting for the Sri Lankan cricket team! In these two years, we have made several contributions to the advertising and marketing industry in Sri Lanka. In the years to come, you will see us doing more of the same high quality creative work for clients and community in Sri Lanka.” BBDO Lanka, which recently added ‘shopper marketing’ to its services, which include ATL, PR and digital, was the first advertising agency in Sri Lanka to promote the country as a business destination with its own initiative to host the Confederation of Indian Industry delegation to an informal gathering of CEOs in Sri Lanka in 2012. Most recently, it supported the launch of the Indian CEO Forum (ICF) in Sri Lanka. ICF is a professional body of Indian business heavyweights in Sri Lanka across all industries that wishes to use its collective experience to attract further Indian investment to the country, as well as ease the investment process for potential investors. Speaking on the growth and cutting-edge thinking that drives the BBDO team, Chanithi Gunasekera, Senior Account Director at BBDO Lanka, explained: “The thinking behind our constant focus on delivering high quality work is to ensure that each of our client’s objectives are exceeded. This is what drives us to constantly raise the bar. As a team, we are dedicated to delivering creative and effective solutions that set us apart.” Apart from its objective of promoting Sri Lanka, BBDO Lanka is further uniquely positioned in the advertising industry, having launched its Force for Good initiative in 2012 by becoming the first carbon neutral advertising agency in South Asia. It also launched Asia’s first ever mechanical air purifying billboard and contributed to the ‘Bikes for Life’ initiative which provides children in the north with bikes and thus, a means to get to school and not miss out on getting an education. Ranil Nalawansa, Creative Director (Head of Art) at BBDO Lanka, commenting on what sets BBDO Lanka apart, said: “At BBDO, we believe in delivering an integrated solution to each client. Our work and the recognition we have gained in the short span of two years speaks for itself. As an agency with a high degree of focus on the creative product, in addition to delivering, we also strive to constantly deliver solutions that impact the communities we operate in.” BBDO Lanka is also the only Sri Lankan advertising agency with branch operations in Mauritius and since 2011, has been engaged in doing some exciting work for Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB). MCB is the oldest and largest banking institution in Mauritius and a true pioneer in its banking sector. BBDO Lanka also does projects for Mauritian Edendale Distributors Ltd.
