CIM Sri Lanka holds Graduation Ceremony, Chartered Marketer and Membership Investiture 2013

The Graduation Ceremony, Chartered Marketer and Membership Investiture of The Chartered Institute of Marketing Sri Lanka Region concluded successfully on 30 July 2013, at Waters Edge, Battaramulla. A total of 121 who completed their Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing in March, June, September and December 2012 graduated, whilst five World Prize, two Best Stage and 22 Sri Lankan Subject Award winners were felicitated; Y.A. Abeyratne – Sri Lankan Best Stage for Professional Certificate in Marketing, D.J. Fernando – World Prize for Stakeholder Marketing, M.A.P. Manushka – World Prize for Managing Marketing, M.I.K. Abeygoonaratne and E.S.P. Perera – Joint World Prize Winners for Emerging Themes, A.S. Weerasinghe – World Prize for Marketing Leadership and Planning and T. Jayawardena – Overall World Wide Achievement Award at the Professional Postgraduate Diploma. Since 1979 CIM Sri Lanka Region had produced 29 World Prize and two Egerton Canagasabey Award winners to date. Anne Godfrey, MA (Hons),DipLaw, FCMI, FCIM, Chief Executive of The Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK graced the Graduation Ceremony, Chartered Marketer and Membership Investiture 2013 as the Guest of Honour. During Anne’s visit she attended meetings with key officials to discuss and explore the possibilities of CIM’s contribution towards education and professional development in Sri Lanka. Anne was also the speaker for the Breakfast Forum titled ‘Marketing Confidence as an Indicator of Business Growth’ organised by The Chartered Institute of Marketing Sri Lanka Region with the participation of over 70 senior marketing practitioners on 29 July at Cinnamon Lakeside. The Graduation Ceremony, Chartered Marketer and Membership Investiture inducted 16 new Members (MCIM) and 12 Chartered Marketers (CM). The Chartered Institute of Marketing, the largest community of professional marketers in the world conferred five eminent marketers who had contributed immensely towards the professional excellence in marketing possessing over 15 years of experience coupled with strong marketing background with the Fellowship (FCIM) status; Chitrangani Herat Gunaratne – Senior Vice President of Quantum Consumer Solutions, Roshan Kaluarachchi – Chief Marketing Officer of Sri Lanka Telecom PLC, Niroshini Pethiyagoda – Deputy General Manager Marketing of Sri Lanka Insurance, Tharaka Ranwala – Deputy General Manager Marketing and Business Development of Sampath Bank and Dr. Ranjan Saheed – Senior Management Consultant Lecturer and Faculty Dean of Aquinas University College. Speaking about the ceremony, Nadi Dharmasiri, Chairperson of The Chartered Institute of Marketing Sri Lanka Region, said: “It is indeed a joyous occasion to CIM Sri Lanka Region to have witnessed this ceremony unfold for the 21st successive year. CIM is an industry proven and international qualification recognised by the Royal Charter in UK and the CIM curriculum is undoubtedly challenging as any academic or professional course should be. ‘CIM’ today has grown to be not just a marketing qualification, but stands as a comprehensive marketing and management qualification; a level 7 qualification. When so much is changing in the world of business, the CIM qualification provides reassurance – to employers and customers alike – that those who are qualified have a real understanding of the principles and application of marketing.” She further stated: “The awarding of a CIM qualification and membership grades is just the beginning of a journey and all members of CIM have a responsibility towards their customers, employers, colleagues and themselves – to keep their knowledge up to date; the Institute’s Chartered Marketer program is therefore of utmost importance. The Chartered Status is the way in which Members can demonstrate that they are keeping abreast of developments in the profession and that their understanding and knowledge is fit for purpose. My heartfelt congratulations to all the Graduates, Prize Winners, Members, Fellows and Chartered Marketers.” Amal Fernando, Head of Education The Charted Institute of Marketing, said: “On this memorable occasion, firstly, I congratulate each of our graduates who were conferred. This certainly is an achievement they should be proud of as it represents the most prestigious marketing qualification in the world. In the history of CIM Sri Lanka Region, we have produced many World Prize Winners. We are fortunate once again to produce world’s top ranked student for the Professional Postgraduate Diploma stage and also have the privilege of producing five special individuals who have been recognised as the world’s highest ranked students.” Sujith Silva, Head of Membership Development expressing his views stated: “The mission of The Chartered Institute of Marketing Sri Lanka Region revolves around our members. CIM Sri Lanka Region will continue its stance to assist our members to take their profession to greater heights through knowledge, skills development and through networking within the marketing fraternity. I congratulate all the members inducted today as Members, Fellows and Chartered Marketers and request our members to make use of the wealth of knowledge, services and facilities extended by the Chartered Institute of Marketing to keep themselves one step ahead in this fast changing corporate world.” The CIM Sri Lanka Region is the first international branch of CIM UK and comprises of the largest number of members, both professional and students, of CIM outside the UK; 3,000 student members and over 1,500 professional members, respectively.
