CIM Sri Lanka Region appoints new Board

The Chartered Institute of Marketing Sri Lanka Region (CIMSLR) announced the election of members to its Board at the recently concluded Annual General Meeting held at the Cinnamon Lakeside in Colombo. Stuart Chapman (Managing Director – GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Sri Lanka) as the new Honorary President whilst Shantha Katipearachchi (Senior Consultant – Darley Butler & Co. Ltd, a member of E.B Creasy & Co. PLC) was appointed as the new Chairman of the Institute. The annual review of activities for 2012/2013 was presented by the outgoing Chairperson Nadi Dharmasiri. In her report she highlighted some of the key initiatives taken by CIMSLR during the past year. In the inaugural speech as the new Chairman of CIMSLR Katipearachchi stated: “It is a privilege to be appointed Chairman of the CIMSLR Board. I look forward to continuing the great work of CIM and championing the common interests of our members. Our focus this year is to drive student and membership growth by creating more value to all our stakeholders.” The new Regional Board will focus on six key areas during the coming year, namely education, membership, networking, knowledge hub, corporate communications and PR and networking and fellowship. The members of the Board for 2014 include: Shantha Katipearachchi as the Regional Chairman, Nadi Dharmasiri (DGM Brand Marketing – Sri Lanka Telecom PLC) as Immediate Past Chairperson, Sanjika Perera (Director Business Development & Projects – Serendib Leisure Management Ltd.) as Vice Chairman, Brian Selvanayagam (Country Head – The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment Sri Lanka) as Honorary Secretary, Anuradha Edirisinghe (Country Head – Sri Lanka & Maldives – Unilever Food Solutions) as the Regional Treasurer. Other members of the Board include: Amal Fernando (Head of Marketing – Triumph International Lanka Ltd.), Sujith Silva (Managing Director – Inspire One), Hasrath Munasinghe (DGM Marketing – Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC), Keith De Silva (Director – Corporate Affairs Ltd.), Sumudu Thanthirigoda (Senior Brand Manager – Unilever Sri Lanka) and Chris Daly (Director Customer Experience – CIM UK) as the UK representative. The Chartered Institute of Marketing is the largest community of professional marketers in the world with 100 years of heritage delivering education, membership and insight offerings to the marketing and sales profession. As the world’s largest Institute for professional marketers with over 35,000 members globally, CIM places great emphasis in maintaining high standards of quality and integrity and as such, develops and sets standards within marketing landscapes of UK and other regional countries in which it operates. The CIM qualification is the only international qualification recognised by the Royal Charter in United Kingdom. The CIM Sri Lanka Region is the first international branch of CIM UK and comprises of the largest number of members, both professional and students, of CIM outside the UK; 1,800 student members and over 1,000 professional members, respectively. The Regional Institute has always campaigned for greater recognition and excellence in the marketing profession in Sri Lanka, through education, training and development.
