CMI Sri Lanka Branch organises HR Business Leaders Forum

The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) in the UK is dedicated to promoting the highest standards in management and leadership excellence.

The CMI Sri Lanka Branch set up in 1996 has carried out a lot of important work over the last 15 years for the development of professionalism in managers in Sri Lanka. Being one of the eight countries in the world to have their own branches of CMI, CMI Sri Lanka has over 140 members at present comprising of Fellows, Full Members and Associate Members.

The branch regularly organises ‘Evening Presentations’ on topics of contemporary interest for its members and for the benefit of other corporate members. The first public event of the branch for this year – 2011/12 will be a HR Business Forum on ‘The Art of Optimising 3 Ps by HR, People, Performance and Profit’.

This event will be held on 26 September 2011 between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Palm Lounge, Galle Face Hotel with eminent HR professionals Sunil Dissanayake, Isuru Thilakawardane and Rohan Pandithakoralage as guest speakers.

The session will be moderated by Janaka Kumarasinghe (Past President, IPM Sri Lanka).The programme will focus on the role of HR in turning around business corporations and the importance of people as a strategic asset.

CMI Sri Lanka Branch President Keerthi Jayaweera reasons out why the institute has chosen this theme and says that today’s business leaders are much more concerned in developing their financial capital rater than human capital. This would result in them loosing many business opportunities and ending up as bankrupts faster than they envisage. Therefore the people who drive businesses for their organizations are a critical success factor in a competitive business environment. Those who preserve their human resources while going through many setbacks in other areas will have a better chance to regain their lost opportunities, and move forward successfully.

He further emphasised that this genuine truth should be shared with many business leaders to generate a debate over this but unfortunately the professional bodies have not given deep thought to spread this important message to the business community at large .
